Curios Peru project

Curios Peru is a marketplace for travellers who want to encounter Peru through the people who live and work there. Its experiences bring together food, craft, nature, history, family life, neighbourhoods, and local knowledge, giving independent hosts a direct way to share what they know with an international audience.

Typeface’s role began before there was a defined technical brief. We helped turn the original proposition into a platform model: identifying the people the system needed to serve, the journeys each of them would take, the information the marketplace needed to hold, and the operational processes required behind the public website.

The challenge

This could not be treated as a conventional tourism brochure. A useful platform had to support three distinct groups at once. Travellers needed to discover, understand, and book experiences with confidence. Hosts needed a manageable way to present their work and coordinate availability. Administrators needed enough structure and visibility to maintain the catalogue, respond to bookings, and keep communication moving between both sides.

The material was also inherently varied. A family meal, an artisan workshop, a historical walk, and a journey into a remote landscape do not fit neatly into a single rigid template. The platform needed consistency without making each experience feel interchangeable.

Platform definition

Typeface mapped the service before building the interface. We defined the traveller, host, and administrator journeys; the relationships between experiences, people, and destinations; and the workflows connecting discovery, availability, booking, notification, and fulfilment.

That work created a content and operating structure capable of holding a broad catalogue while remaining understandable. Travellers can approach the platform through what they want to do, where they want to go, or whom they want to meet. Hosts remain visible as people rather than being reduced to anonymous inventory.

Design and development

The public experience uses strong photography, direct language, and a flexible visual system to give each offering room to express its own character. The interface is responsive and bilingual, allowing the same underlying platform to serve local and international audiences across devices.

The site was custom-developed around the marketplace’s requirements. Its multi-role architecture supports hosts, administrators, and guests, with availability management, booking notifications, and operational workflows integrated into the wider experience rather than treated as separate tools.

A living platform

Curios Peru continues to develop as new hosts, regions, and experiences are introduced. Typeface remains involved as technology consultant, maintaining the platform and its infrastructure while advising on the changes required as the service grows.

The result is more than a collection of attractive pages. It is a working digital marketplace and an operational system: one that helps travellers find meaningful encounters, gives local hosts a route to an international audience, and provides the coordinating team with a platform they can continue to expand.
